Who we are
Goring Free Church is a family of Christians of all ages and from various backgrounds and traditions. We are united by our common faith in Jesus Christ and seek to serve God in the 21st Century through:
We believe the whole Bible to be the Word of God and as such it is foundational to all that we are and do as his followers. Scripture is authoritative for both our beliefs and behaviour. Therefore the proclamation of the Word of God is central to our ministry at Goring Free Church.
Worship is a 24/7 activity! We seek to worship God in proclaiming his glory through all areas of our lives, not just on a Sunday! This involves worshipping him with our minds as we seek to develop a Christian perspective on the issues of our day. It involves worshipping him with our hearts as physically and emotionally we express our adoration and appreciation of him. And it involves worshipping him with our souls as we contemplate the eternal dimension of our spiritual nature.
We exist as a church because of our mutual faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. And as a church we are part of a new society, part of the community of God. It is as we participate in the life of this community that we grow in our discipleship, are able to express and receive love amongst each other, and carry out the ministry of Goring Free Church. Therefore we seek to give opportunity for participation through our corporate Sunday gatherings and small group meetings, and encourage mutual service through the various ministries of the church.
We acknowledge the fact that we are relational beings, not created to be independent but rather dependent upon God and interdependent upon one another. Therefore, as part of the community of God, we seek to love and support one another, offering practical as well as pastoral care, always with the view of enabling one another to effectively live out our Christians faith.
We hold to the command of Jesus Christ to take the good news of his salvation into all the world and hence seek to be involved in mission. We recognise that this begins on our own doorstep and so have evangelism as a high priority, trusting that the Lord will add to his kingdom through our witness and ministry.
